Applicant Can

Business Rules

  • Applicants for the variable line of authority (LOA) must supply FINRA CRD number on application.

  • Variable applicants must also request an active resident life license to be eligible for variable products.

  • Applicant must pass the specific license exam, if applicable.  Applicant is exempt from license exam if applying within 90 days of cancellation of their former resident state's license.

  • Applicants must contact PSI Exams to determine the nearest location for the electronic fingerprint processing service, if fingerprints have not already been submitted with exam results.

  • Licenses will not be issued until an FBI Background Check Report is provided to the Idaho Department of Insurance.

  • Surplus lines applicants must hold an active resident producer license for property and casualty a minimum of two (2) years before applying for the surplus lines license.

  • Independent adjuster applicants must be twenty-one (21) years old or older to apply.

  • Applicant must apply within ninety (90) days of cancellation of previous state's license or within ninety (90) days of moving to Idaho, whichever occurs sooner.

  • Applicant applying for bail surety license must carry a $15,000.00 bond and an appointment secured from a surety Company. The applicant must submit original bond and the completed and signed appointment form to the state.

  • Applicant for limited lines must submit the attestation page from the Limited Lines manual. The limited lines attestation document is located on the state website.

  • Public Adjuster applications must provide a $20,000.00 bond or Irrevocable Letter of Credit in the amount of $20,000.00 to the Idaho Department of Insurance.

  • Applicant applying for a resident license that resides outside the state (border town) of Idaho, will need to submit a paper application directly to Idaho Department of Insurance.

  • Resident bail agents, producers, and adjusters must provide an exam pass slip to the Idaho Department of Insurance.

  • Applicants for life settlement broker or life settlement provider must have active producer license with life LOA.

  • Applicants that have an inactive resident license with status reason Clearance must apply via NRL application.

  • If applicant responds "yes" to one of the background questions please submit supporting documents electronically via NIPR's Attachments Warehouse. The following documents may also be submitted to the state via mail, email, or fax:
    • A written statement explaining the circumstances.
    • A copy of the charging document.
    • A copy of the official document which demonstrates the resolution of the charges or any final judgment.
