Rules and Regulations

Applicant Can

  • Submit initial license for individuals electronically.
  • Submit major lines of authority.
  • Submit limited lines of authority.
  • Submit Surplus Lines for individuals.
  • Add lines of authority (amend) to an existing active license.
  • Reinstate/reapply through NIPR's Non-Resident License (NRL) Application.
  • Print licenses electronically

Business Rules

  • Applicant must renew the license before applying for additional lines/ amending.

  • An affiliation is not required, and the applicant may proceed past the "Affiliations" page on the uniform application.

  • Please note that applying solely for a Travel license will incur a fee of $750. If unsure if you are to apply for this license, please refer inquiries to Licensing Division at: cid.licensing@ct.gov before proceeding.

  • Casualty Adjuster applicants cannot apply for more than one line of authority within the license class on the same application.

  • Fraternal Agent Variable Life and Variable Annuity applicants must actively hold or apply in conjunction with Fraternal Agent Life.

  • Surplus Lines applicants must actively hold both single lines of Property and Casualty under the Insurance Producer license class prior to submitting the Surplus Lines Broker application.

  • Insurance Producer with Life LOA must actively hold or be applying renewed in conjunction with Variable Life and Variable Annuities.

    • Applicants must supply the FINRA CRD in the application for Variable Life and Variable Annuities
  • Insurance Producer with Life Settlement Registration LOA

    • Applicant must have held an active Insurance Producer Life license for at least one year to apply for a Life Settlement authority.
    • Applicant cannot add multiple lines of authority to Insurance Producer license when adding Life Settlement
    • Reapplications - Insurance Producer Life must first be approved and displayed on the Producer Database before adding the Life Settlement line of authority to license.
  • Insurance Producer and PA 187 Travel applicants that have been inactive for more than one year past expiration date may reinstate through (RL) application.

    • Insurance Producer and PA 187  Travel applicants can enter a DBA (doing business as) name. All other license types are prohibited.
  • Life Settlement Broker

  • Reinsurance Intermediary Broker and Reinsurance Intermediary Manager

  • Your application information will be reviewed and processed by the Connecticut Insurance Department. Most applications will be processed within 7-10 business days. You will receive email notification from the State once the LICENSE has been APPROVED. Check for your approved license at: www.ct.gov/cid. Under "General Information," select Verify and Print a License."

  • If applicant responds "yes" to one of the background questions please submit supporting documents electronically via NIPR's Attachments Warehouse. The documents may also be submitted to the  state via mail, email, or fax.
