Apply for a license

To apply for a license in Texas, visit LicenseHub.
If you can’t apply for the lines for which you have qualified, contact the state to verify that they have received the exams and any necessary pre-licensing education completion information. Also ensure that they have reported this to NIPR with the correct last name, social security number and date of birth. 

Renew a license

To renew a license in Texas, visit LicenseHub.

If you can’t renew a particular line offered via NIPR, verify that the line is actively held in your resident state. If the line is not held, you cannot request that line via NIPR.

Cancel or surrender a line of authority

To cancel a Texas insurance license or specific line(s) of authority, you must complete and submit Form FIN530 (Voluntary Surrender of Texas Insurance License) to the Texas Department of Insurance (TDI).

To Surrender an Entire License:

  1. Complete Form FIN530.
  2. List the license number and license type in the “License information” section.
  3. Sign and date the form.
  4. Submit the completed form to CE@tdi.texas.gov.

Submitting the form without limiting language will result in surrender of the full license listed.

To Cancel Only Specific Line(s) of Authority (Keep the License Class Active):

  1. Complete Form FIN530.
  2. In the “License information” section at the top of the form:
    • Enter your license number.
    • Enter the license type.
    • Clearly indicate the specific line(s) of authority you wish to cancel.
  3. In the “Additional notes” section, clearly state that you are requesting cancellation of specific line(s) of authority only and that you wish to keep the license class active.
  4. Sign and submit the form to CE@tdi.texas.gov.

Failure to clearly indicate that the request is limited to certain line(s) of authority may result in surrender of the entire license.

Information updates

Report a legal name change – individual or entity

To report legal name changes for an individual or entity:

Individual: Complete the Individual Agent / Adjuster Name or Address Change Request form. You must fill out and send this form within 30 days of a change to your name or address. Email it to NameAddressChange@DataStreamLLC.com with any required documents.

Entity: Complete the Entity Name Change/ Assumed Name (DBA) Request form. Submit the completed form and any fees to the mailing address at the bottom of page 2 of the form.  

Update contact information – individual or entity

To update contact information for insurance professionals:  

Individual: Visit the LicenseHub. Find more information on the contact update process on our Contact Change Request page.

Report changes to Affiliations or Designated Responsible Licensed Producers

Submit changes to affiliations or DRLPs using the Biographical Form and Certification of License Qualification, along with any required documentation. Follow the submission instructions included on the form.  

NOTE: This only applies to entities, not to individuals

Report changes to Owners, Officers, Partners or Directors

Changes to Owners, Partners, Officers or Directors are made using the Biographical Form and Certification of License Qualification form. Submit the completed form and any required documentation using the instructions included on the form.
