License management

Apply for a license

To apply for a license in Michigan, visit LicenseHub.
If you can’t apply for the lines for which you have qualified, contact the state to verify that they have received the exams and any necessary pre-licensing education completion information. Also ensure that they have reported this to NIPR with the correct last name, social security number and date of birth. 

Renew a license

To renew a license in Michigan, visit LicenseHub.

If you can’t renew a particular line offered via NIPR, verify that the line is actively held in your resident state. If the line is not held, you cannot request that line via NIPR. 

Print a license

Michigan does not allow electronic license printing. Visit the Michigan Document Requests - Certification Letter, Duplicate License, License History page for more information.  

Entities that require a copy of a producer’s license can print a screenshot of the license status using the DIFS Insurance License Locator or NIPR’s Producer Database (PDB).

Cancel or surrender a line of authority

To surrender a license or delete a line of authority, visit the Termination of Insurance Licenses page.

Entity: Login to the Insurance Licensing Online Services (ILOS) portal on the Michigan DIFS website. 

Update contact information – individual or entity

Entity: Login to the ILOS portal on the Michigan DIFS website. 

Report changes to Affiliations or Designated Responsible Licensed Producers

For changes related to affiliations or Designated Responsible Licensed Producers (DRLPs), log in to the ILOS portal on the Michigan DIFS website.

To report changes to Owners, Officers, Partners or Directors, log in to the ILOS portal on the Michigan DIFS website.

Insurance exam scores in Michigan are valid for 12 Months.
