Fees

Fees shown are state fees only. These fees do not include NIPR transaction fees.

  • Fees are charged per application.
  • There is no fee to amend an existing license.

Fee Definitions

  • Insurance Producers:
    • Application fee ($40): Applies to first-time applicants. Applicants applying more than four years after the license expiration date are treated as first-time applicants and must meet all initial licensing requirements.
    • Reinstatement fee ($140): Applies beginning on day 91 through one year after the license expiration date. Submit an initial licensing application. The total includes the $40 application fee and $100 reinstatement fee.
    • Reapplication fee ($140): Applies when reapplying more than one year but no more than four years after the license expiration date. Submit an initial licensing application. The total includes the $40 application fee and $100 reapplication fee.
    • Canceled or voluntary surrender exception: Applicants reapplying after a license was canceled or voluntarily surrendered are not charged the additional $100 reinstatement or reapplication fee. The $40 application fee still applies.

Rules and Regulations

Applicant Can

  • Accepts initial license for individuals electronically.
  • Submit major lines of authority.
  • Submit limited lines of authority.
  • Submit Surplus Lines for individuals.
  • Add lines of authority (amend) to an existing active license.
  • Reinstate/reapply through NIPR's Non-Resident License (NRL) Application.
  • License printing available electronically.

Business Rules

  • Eligibility Requirements

    • Applicants must be at least 18 years old.
    • Applicants must not have an active resident license in Kansas.
    • Individual applicants must provide a residence address outside Kansas. If the residence address is in Kansas, the transaction will be declined.
      • P.O. Boxes and Private Mailboxes (PMBs) are only permitted in the mailing address field.
  • Line of Authority Requirements

    • Variable Life and Variable Annuity applicants must hold an active Life line of authority or apply for the Life line of authority at the same time.
      • Applicants must provide their FINRA CRD number on the application.
    • Surplus Lines applicants must hold active Property and Casualty lines of authority.
      • Applicants must also hold an active Surplus Lines license in their resident state.
    • Viatical Broker applicants must hold an active Life license.

  • Third Party Administrator Requirements

    • Third Party Administrator applicants must submit TPA supplemental documentation to the Kansas Department of Insurance through NIPR’s Attachments Warehouse.
    • Applicants cannot actively hold or apply for a Third Party Administrator license and a Self-Funded Third Party Administrator Registration at the same time.
    • Applicants may reapply 91 days after the expiration date.
    • Applicants must hold an active Third Party Administrator license with a home state or designated home state of:
      • Alaska (AK)
      • Delaware (DE)
      • Florida (FL)
      • Idaho (ID)
      • Indiana (IN)
      • Missouri (MO)
      • New Hampshire (NH)
      • West Virginia (WV)
    • Applicants whose home state is not specified must apply using the No Home State application.
  • Self-Funded Third Party Administrator Registration Requirements

    • Self-Funded Third Party Administrator Registration applicants must submit TPA supplemental documentation to the Kansas Department of Insurance through NIPR’s Attachments Warehouse.
    • Applicants cannot actively hold or apply for a Self-Funded Third Party Administrator Registration and a Third Party Administrator license at the same time.
    • Applicants may reapply 91 days after the expiration date.
  • Background Questions and Documentation

    • Applicants who answer Yes to a background question must provide:
      • A written statement explaining the circumstances.
      • Official court, regulatory, or administrative documents showing the current status or final resolution of the matter.
      • Any additional documentation requested by the Kansas Department of Insurance.
    • Supporting documents must be submitted electronically through NIPR’s Attachments Warehouse.
  • License Status Requirements

    • Applicants with a status reason of Revoked on their Kansas license cannot reapply for two years from the date the license was revoked.
