Rules and Regulations

Applicant Can

  • Submit initial license for individuals electronically.
  • Add lines of authority (amend) to an existing active license.
  • Reinstate/reapply through NIPR's No Home State License (NHS) Application.
  • Print license electronically.

Applicant Cannot

  • Submit major lines of authority.

Business Rules

  • General Requirements

    • Applicants must be at least eighteen (18) years of age.
    • A residence address is required. P.O. Boxes are not permitted.
    • All applications are subject to state review and approval.
  • Eligibility Requirements

    • This application type is only available to applicants who do not hold an active resident license in any state.
    • Adjuster-Specific Eligibility
      • Adjuster applicants must not hold an active non-resident adjuster license in any state.
      • Applicants must have a residence or business address in a state that does not license adjusters.
      • If adjuster licensing is available in your residence or business address state, you are not eligible to apply using this application type.
  • Address Restrictions (Insurance Producer – Important)

    • Your eligibility to apply may depend on your state of residence or business address for certain license types.
      • Title Insurance: You must have Kentucky or Massachusetts listed in your residence or business address.
      • Travel Insurance: You must have Florida or Virginia listed in your residence or business address.
      • Motor Vehicle Road Service: You must have one of the following states listed in your residence or business address:
        Maine, Florida, Texas, Iowa, New Jersey, Massachusetts, Illinois, Ohio, or Vermont
      • Credit Insurance: You must have Maine listed in your business address.
    • If your address does not meet these requirements, you will not be eligible to apply electronically.
  • Adjuster Exam Requirements

    • Applicants applying for an adjuster license who do not already hold an adjuster license must pass the required examination before the application can be approved.
    • Applications without a valid exam record will be deferred for state review.
  • Reinstatement Requirements (Adjuster Only)

    • Reinstatement depends on your license status:
      • If your prior New Hampshire adjuster license status is “Expired” and the expiration date is within two (2) years:
        • You must be CE compliant if New Hampshire is your Designated Home State (DHS).
        • The applicable reinstatement fee will be charged.
      • If your prior New Hampshire adjuster license status is not “Expired” and is within two (2) years:
        • You must either pass the required exam OR be CE compliant if New Hampshire is the Designated Home State (DHS).
        • The applicable reinstatement fee will be charged.
      • If your license has been expired for more than two (2) years:
        • You will be treated as a new applicant, and required examinations must be completed.
  • Reinstatement Requirements (Insurance Producer only)

    • If your license has been expired for two (2) years or less, your application will be processed as a reinstatement, and the applicable reinstatement fee will be charged.
    • If your license has been expired for more than two (2) years, you will be treated as a new applicant.
    • Reinstatement is processed through the initial license application.
  • Non-Citizen Requirements

    • Applicants must provide proof of eligibility to work in the United States.
    • Documentation must be submitted within thirty (30) days of the application date or the application will be denied and fees forfeited.
    • Documents should be submitted electronically through NIPR’s Attachments Warehouse
      • If electronic submission is not available, documentation may be submitted directly to the state.
    • All correspondence must include:
      • Applicant name
      • SSN
      • NIPR Transaction Number
      • National Producer Number (NPN), if available
