Rules and Regulations
Applicant Can
- Submit initial license for individuals electronically.
- Submit major lines of authority.
- Submit limited lines of authority.
- Submit Surplus Lines for individuals.
- Add lines of authority (amend) to an existing active license.
- Reinstate/reapply through NIPR's Non-Resident License Application.
- Print Licenses Electronically.
Applicant Cannot
- Submit partial renewals.
Business Rules
General Requirements
- Applicant must be at least eighteen (18) years old.
- Applicants with a status reason of Revoked or Suspended are not eligible to apply electronically. Please contact the New Hampshire Insurance Department.
- Applicants amending a license must not be in a ninety (90) day renewal or late renewal period.
Eligibility Requirements
- Applicant may not apply for a license in their own resident state.
- Applicant must not have a residence address in the state of New Hampshire.
Line of Authority Requirements
- Applicants applying for the Variable Life and Variable Annuity line of authority must provide a FINRA CRD number.
- Applicants holding the Property and Casualty line of authority are not eligible to apply for the Property, Casualty, or Personal Lines line(s) of authority.
- Applicants applying for a Life Settlement Producer license must hold an active Insurance Producer license with the Life line of authority in New Hampshire.
Background Questions & Documentation
- If an applicant responds "Yes" to any background question, supporting documentation must be submitted.
- Supporting documentation should be submitted electronically through NIPR's Attachments Warehouse.
- Documentation must be submitted within thirty (30) days of the application date or the application will be declined and fees forfeited.
- Documentation must include:
- A written statement explaining the circumstances.
- A copy of the official document demonstrating the resolution of the charges or final judgment.
- All correspondence must include:
- Applicant name
- SSN / FEIN
- NIPR Transaction Number
- National Producer Number (NPN), if available
Non-Citizen Requirements
- Applicants who are not U.S. citizens must meet the following requirements:
- Hold a valid U.S. resident license.
- Have a U.S. mailing address.
- Provide a valid U.S. residential address.
Reinstatement (Expired Licenses)
- If the license is in expired status and within 2 years of expiration, the applicant may reinstate the license.
- A reinstatement fee (double the license fee) will apply when the status reason is “Expired.”
- If the license is inactive but not due to an “Expired” status reason, the double fee does not apply.
- If the license has been expired for more than 2 years, the applicant must apply as a new licensee.
