Rules and Regulations
Applicant Can
- Submit renewals for business entities electronically.
- Submit renewals for major lines of authority.
- Submit renewals for limited lines of authority.
- Submit renewals for surplus lines for business entities.
- Late renew through NIPR's Resident License Renewal (RLR) Application.
- Print licenses electronically.
Applicant Cannot
- Submit partial renewals.
Business Rules
Insurance Producer Title applicants must email a copy of the original bond(s) or other required documentation directly to the Maryland Insurance Administration. Please submit via NIPR's Attachments Warehouse Visit the Maryland Title for additional information.
When renewing Surplus Lines, applicant must have both Property and Casualty LOAs under the Insurance Producer license class.
Insurance Producer Life is required to renew viatical settlement broker license.
Maryland does not accept applications or renewals for business entity sole proprietor.
Electronic renewals must be renewed for all lines under requested license.
Variable applicants must also hold active life within requested license class.
Applicants with a Cancelled, Voluntary Surrender, or Cancelled by Commissioner license status must contact Maryland Insurance Administration directly if attempting to renew.
Viatical Settlement Broker and Provider re-applications are allowed the day after expiration date.
At least one (1) Designated Licensed Responsible insurance producer (DRLP) must be provided on the application and have a resident or non-resident license in Maryland.
DRLPs provided must cumulatively cover the LOAs on the application.
If applicant responds "yes" to one of the background questions please submit supporting documents electronically via NIPR's Attachments Warehouse.
