Rules and Regulations

Applicant Can

  • Submit renewals for business entities electronically.
  • Submit renewals for major lines of authority.
  • Submit renewals for limited lines of authority.
  • Submit renewals for surplus lines for business entities.
  • Late renew through NIPR's Resident License Renewal (RLR) Application.
  • Print licenses electronically.

Applicant Cannot

  • Submit partial renewals.

Business Rules

  • Insurance Producer Title applicants must email a copy of the original bond(s) or other required documentation directly to the Maryland Insurance Administration.  Please submit via NIPR's Attachments Warehouse Visit the Maryland Title for additional information.

  • When renewing Surplus Lines, applicant must have both Property and Casualty LOAs under the Insurance Producer license class.

  • Insurance Producer Life is required to renew viatical settlement broker license.

  • Maryland does not accept applications or renewals for business entity sole proprietor.

  • Electronic renewals must be renewed for all lines under requested license.

  • Variable applicants must also hold active life within requested license class.

  • Applicants with a Cancelled, Voluntary Surrender, or Cancelled by Commissioner license status must contact Maryland Insurance Administration directly if attempting to renew.

  • Viatical Settlement Broker and Provider re-applications are allowed the day after expiration date.

  • At least one (1) Designated Licensed Responsible insurance producer (DRLP) must be provided on the application and have a resident or non-resident license in Maryland.

  • DRLPs provided must cumulatively cover the LOAs on the application.

  • If applicant responds "yes" to one of the background questions please submit supporting documents electronically via NIPR's Attachments Warehouse
