Rules and Regulations

Applicant Can

  • Submit renewals for individuals electronically.
  • Submit renewals for major lines of authority.
  • Submit renewals for limited lines of authority.
  • Submit renewals for surplus lines for individuals.
  • Late renew through NIPR's Non-Resident Renewal Application.
  • Print licenses electronically.

Applicant Cannot

  • Submit partial renewals.

Business Rules

  • Applicant’s license number and National Producer Number (NPN) must match current Producer Database (PDB) record for resident state.

  • Applicant must provide a valid country code.

  • Adviser applicants will be approved once the state verifies that the bond currently on file is still active.

  • Title applicants will be approved once the state verifies that bond(s) on file in the correct amount are still active. If exempt from the bond or education requirement(s) please submit documentation supporting exemption directly to the Maryland Insurance Administration to have the application resolved.

  • Self-Service Storage renewal applications must be submitted via a paper application directly to state.

  • Applicant must hold an active Maryland Insurance Producer License with the Property and Casualty lines of authority to renew a Surplus Lines License.

  • Applicant must hold an active Maryland Insurance Producer License with the Life line of authority to renew a Viatical Settlement Broker License.

  • Applicant must hold an active Adviser License with the Life line of authority to renew an Adviser License with the Variable line of authority.

  • Insurance Producer Title and Adviser lines of authority (LOA) applications are deferred to the state. Application will be approved once Maryland verifies that bond(s) on file in the correct amount are still active. If exempt from the bond or education requirement(s) please submit documentation supporting exemption directly to the Maryland Insurance Administration to have the application resolved. The email address is producerlicensing.mia@maryland.gov.   • Applicants with a Cancelled license status must contact Maryland Insurance Administration directly if attempting to re-apply.

  • Viatical Settlement Broker must reinstate the day after expiration date. Late renewals are not allowed.

  • If applicant responds "yes" to one of the background questions please submit supporting documents electronically via NIPR's Attachments Warehouse. The documents may also be submitted to the state via mail or fax. All other required documentation must be forwarded directly to the state.
