Rules and Regulations
Applicant Can
- Submit renewals for business entities electronically.
- Submit renewals for major lines of authority.
- Submit renewals for limited lines of authority.
- Late renew through NIPR's Resident License Renewal (RLR) Application.
- Submit partial renewals.
Applicant Cannot
- Print licenses electronically. Maine Bureau of Insurance will email a copy of the license 24-48 hours after the license application is approved.
- Submit renewals for Surplus Lines for business entities.
Business Rules
Please ensure that your email information is current and up to date. The Maine Bureau of Insurance will email a copy of the license 24- 48 hours after the applications are approved.
Late fees are applicable the first day after the renewal date.
Addresses will not be updated as part of the renewal process. If a new address is entered as part of a renewal, it will not be updated in the Maine record. A separate request must be submitted to the Bureau of Insurance. Address changes can be made through the state website, under Producer Services, Address Changes.
At least one (1) Designated Responsible Licensed Producer (DRLP) must be provided on the application and have and active resident or non-resident license in Maine.
If applicant responds "yes" to one of the background questions please submit supporting documents electronically via NIPR's Attachments Warehouse. The documents may also be submitted to the state via mail, email, or fax.

Renewal Periods
- All License Classes
- Renewal Period: 90 days prior to license expiration date
- Late Renewal Period: Late license renewals are allowed electronically beginning the day following the license expiration date and will end 90 days past license expiration date. After 90 days past license expiration, the applicant must submit through initial licensing application.
- Note: license must be in Active status in order to renew / late renew
