  • Applications for Other lines of authority will defer to state for approval.
  • Attention Maine Applicants:
    • If you are unsure of what license or line(s) you should apply for, please verify before continuing with the application. You may apply for multiple lines at the same time; however please note that the license application will not be processed until qualifications for all authorities on the application are met. Avoid these common errors, which may result in non-refundable payment of fees.
      • Applicant marked the incorrect line of authority when completing the application.
      • Applicant completed two identical applications.
      • Applicant applied for a license they are not required to hold.

Applicant Can

  • Submit initial license for individuals electronically.
  • Submit major lines of authority.
  • Submit limited lines of authority.
  • Submit surplus lines for individuals.
  • Add lines of authority (amend) to an existing active license.
  • Reinstate/reapply through NIPR's Non-Resident License (NRL) Application.
  • Print licenses electronically 24-48 hours after approval via www.maine.gov/insurance.

  • Applicant may amend license if they have an active license or line of authority (LOA). If license or LOA have a revoked status, the applicant must wait one year from revocation date to apply for any new line.

  • Applicants for the variable LOA must supply FINRA CRD number on application.

  • If applicant responds "yes" to one of the background questions, please submit supporting documents electronically via NIPR's Attachments Warehouse. The documents may also be submitted to the state via mail, email, or fax.
