Rules and Regulations

Applicant Can

  • Submit initial license for business entities electronically.
  • Submit major lines of authority.
  • Submit surplus lines for business entities.
  • Reinstate/reapply through NIPR's Resident License (RL) Application.
  • Print Licenses Electronically.

Applicant Cannot

  • Submit limited lines of authority.
  • Add lines of authority (amend) to an existing active license.

Business Rules

  • Third Party Administrator applicant can reinstate license up to and including twelve (12) months from the date of the license expiration through the Resident License Renewal (RLR) Application. If license has been non-renewed for more than twelve (12) months, it will be processed as a new application through the Resident License (RL) Application.

  • Third Party Administrator applications do not require a Designated Responsible Licensed Producer (DRLP).

  • All Third Party Administrator license applications are deferred to the state for submission of evidence of current surety bond coverage - see Iowa Administrative Code 191-58.3(2)b(1); the TPA Application Checklist; a Certified copy of the corporate or organization documents OR a Certificate of Good Standing from the Iowa Secretary of State's office - see Iowa Administrative Code 191-58.3(2)c(1); and a List of all Insurance Companies or other Entities for which the Administrator has a Client Business Relationship (510.12).

  • All business entity licenses are issued for three (3) years and all licenses expire on the last day of formation/incorporation month in the renewal year. A license is good for the remainder of the calendar year in which application is made plus three (3) additional years.

  • Business Entity applicants do not have a late renewal period. After license expiration date Business Entity applicants must submit new licensing application.

  • Business Entity Surplus Lines Producer applicants must supply a Designated Responsible Licensed Producer (DRLP) that is actively licensed in Iowa for Property and Casualty and Surplus Lines.

  • All applications will defer to the state for review. The state will request a copy of the contract for review. In order to obtain the Business Entity Public Adjuster license, the DRLP must hold an active individual Public Adjuster license which holds the minimum bond amount of $20,000 per IAC 191-55.10(1)”a”.

  • Designate one Responsible Licensed Producer (DRLP) that holds an active resident or non-resident license in Iowa. This DRLP will have full responsibility for the conduct of all business transactions of the business entity or of insurance producers affiliated with the business entity.

  • All licenses that have been cancelled, surrendered, or terminated for over thirty (30) days need to apply for a new license.

  • If applicant responds "yes" to one of the background questions please submit supporting documents electronically via NIPR's Attachments Warehouse. The documents may also be submitted to the state via mail, email, or fax.
