Rules and Regulations

Applicant Can

  • Accepts renewals for business entities electronically.
  • Accepts renewals for major lines of authority.
  • Accepts renewals for limited lines of authority.
  • Applicant can late renew through NIPR's Non-Resident Renewal (NRR) Application.
  • Applicant can late renew up to one year beyond expiration through NIPR's Non-Resident Renewals (NRR) Application.
  • License printing available electronically.

Business Rules

  • Applicant's name, license number, state of residence, and Tax ID must match current Producer Database (PDB) record for resident state.

  • Applicant must provide a valid country code business email.

  • Applicant may not renew a license in their own resident state.

  • Applicant expired greater than one year with an inactive status must reinstate or reapply through NIPR's Non-Resident License (NRL) Application.

  • There must be no serious:
    • Regulatory Information Retrieval System (RIRS) actions for the applicant since last renewal.
    • 1033 actions for the applicant since last renewal.
  • If so, please contact the state for assistance.

  • Only and at least one (1) Designated Responsible Licensed Producer (DRLP) must be provided on the application.

  • Business Entity Surplus Lines Producer applicants must supply a Designated Responsible Licensed Producer (DRLP) that is actively licensed in Iowa for Property and Casualty and Surplus Lines.

  • All applications will defer to the state for review. The state will request a copy of the contract for review. In order to obtain the Business Entity Public Adjuster license, the DRLP must hold an active individual Public Adjuster license which holds the minimum bond amount of $20,000 per IAC 191-55.10(1)”a”.

  • If applicant responds "yes" to one of the background questions please submit supporting documents electronically via NIPR's Attachments Warehouse. The documents may also be submitted to the state via mail, email, or fax.

Renewal Periods

Iowa does not have a grace period on license renewals. License reinstatements can be processed for up to twelve (12) months past the license expiration date by reapplying through NIPR’s electronic Non-Resident Renewal (NRR) process and paying a late fee. Late renewals only apply to business entities with theThird Party Administrator (TPA) license class. All other applicants must submit an application for a new license through Non-Resident License (NRL).
