Rules and Regulations
Applicant Can
- Submit adjuster for individuals electronically.
- Reinstate a license electronically.
- Add lines of authority to an existing active license electronically.
- Print licenses electronically.
Applicant Cannot
- Submit Adjuster Designated Home State (ADHS) electronically.
Business Rules
Applicant must be at least eighteen (18) years old or older as determined from the applicant's date of birth.
Applicant's name, birth date, license number, state of residence, Tax ID, and National Producer Number (NPN) must match current Producer Database (PDB) record for resident state, if applicable.
Applicant must not have serious Regulatory Information Retrieval System (RIRS) actions or 1033 actions. If so, please contact the state for additional assistance.
Passed exam is required for all lines for Public Adjuster, Independent Adjuster, and Staff Adjuster.
Exams are required for
- First time applicants (Exams are good for 90 days)
- Applicants amending an LOA that requires an exam.
- Applicants reinstating after 1 year
Licenses expired for more than 365 days from expiration will be able to reinstate through Non-Resident Adjuster Licensing application as long as the license status is 'expired'.
Applicant may not apply for a license in their own resident state.
Licenses within 365 days from expiration will need to submit a Non-Resident Adjuster Renewal application as long as the license status is inactive and status reason is something other than 'expired'.
Public Adjuster applicants must submit Proof of Financial Responsibility to the state. See Iowa Administrative Code 191—55.10 (82GA, HF499) Evidence of financial responsibility.
All transactions are deferred to the state for review.
If applicant responds "yes" to one of the background questions please submit supporting documents electronically via NIPR's Attachment Warehouse. The documents may also be submitted to the state via mail, email, or fax.
Adjuster Designated Home State (ADHS) Requirements
- At least one Non-Resident active adjuster license must exist on NIPR's Producer Database (PDB). If applicant's resident state or ADHS is inactive, the applicant must designate new home state.
- The ADHS selected MUST have an active Non-Resident adjuster license on the PDB.
- In order for an applicant to designate a home state during the renewal application, the applicant must have an active Non-Resident adjuster license on the PDB and no active resident adjuster license.
- Applicants that have an active resident producer (non-adjuster) license and no active resident adjuster may not renew an adjuster (non-public adjuster) license using the resident producer (non-adjuster) license.
- If designated home state license is inactive at the time of renewal and no active resident adjuster license exists, applicant may select another state with an active adjuster license as the designated home state.
- Applicants may not select Iowa as Adjuster Designated Home State when renewing their Non-Resident Iowa license. Public Adjusters may not select an Adjuster Designated Home State.
