Rules and Regulations

Applicant Can

  • Submit initial license for business entities electronically.
  • Submit surplus lines for business entities.
  • Submit Non Resident Adjuster Licensing (NRAL) through Non Resident License (NRL) application for business entities.
  • Add lines of authority (amend) to an existing active license.
  • Print licenses electronically.

Applicant Cannot

  • Reinstate/reapply through NIPR's Non-Resident License Application.

Business Rules

  • Applicants must hold an active surplus lines license in their resident state prior to applying for a surplus lines license in Indiana.

  • Applicants for the variable line of authority must supply a FINRA Central Registry Depository (CRD) number on the application.  If you need to verify your CRD number you may use the Broker Search feature found on FINRA's website.

  • At least one (1) Designated Responsible License Producer must be on the application.

  • Surplus lines applicants must enter a designated responsible producer that actively holds a surplus lines license in Indiana.

  • Self-storage applicants must enter at least one (1) designated responsible producer that actively holds a resident producer license with 'property & casualty' line of authority.

  • Portable electronics applicants must enter at least one (1) designated responsible producer that actively holds a portable electronics limited lines license class and/or a resident producer license with 'property & casualty' line of authority.

  • The designated responsible producers must cumulatively cover the lines of authority on the business application. This excludes self-storage insurance, surplus lines and portable electronics.

  • Limited lines reciprocal applicants must enter a designated responsible producer that actively holds a limited lines reciprocal license or a producer license with 'property' and 'casualty' and/or 'personal lines' lines of authority.

  • Applicants must not apply for both 'property & casualty' line of authority and single authorities of 'property' and 'casualty'.

  • Applicant must not apply for nor actively hold both 'Life, Accident & Health' line of authority and single authorities of 'Life' and 'Accident & Health'.

  • A non-resident Independent Adjuster or Independent Adjuster – Designated Home State Indiana license applicant may not apply if the applicant holds an active Indiana non-resident Public Adjuster license.

  • One year after expiration, applicant must apply as new.

  • If applicant responds "yes" to one of the background questions please submit supporting documents electronically via NIPR's Attachments Warehouse. The documents may also be submitted to the state via mail, email, or fax. All other required documentation must be forwarded directly to the state.
