License management
Apply for a license
To apply for a license in Maine, visit LicenseHub.
If you can’t apply for the lines for which you have qualified, contact the state to verify that they have received the exams and any necessary pre-licensing education completion information. Also ensure that they have reported this to NIPR with the correct last name, social security number and date of birth.
Renew a license
To renew a license in Maine, visit LicenseHub.
If you can’t renew a particular line offered via NIPR, verify that the line is actively held in your resident state. If the line is not held, you cannot request that line via NIPR.

To print your license, access your state’s license print tool and follow the instructions on the page.

Visit the Bureau of Insurance page on the State of Maine website.
Cancel or surrender a line of authority
To surrender a license or delete a line of authority:
Individual: Complete the Voluntary Termination of License Request form.
Entity: Complete the Voluntary Termination of License or Branch Registration form.
Follow the submission instructions included on the forms.

Report a legal name change – individual or entity
To report a legal name change:
Individual: Complete the Individual Name Change form.
Entity: Complete the Business Entity Name Change form.
Follow the submission instructions included on the forms.
Update contact information – individual or entity
To update contact information:
Individual: Visit LicenseHub. Find more information on the contact update process on our Contact Change Request page.
Entity: Visit the Business Entity License Changes page. Select Make Your Business Entity Changes Now. From the main menu, select Update License Information to login using your license number.
Report changes to Affiliations or Designated Responsible Licensed Producers
For changes related to affiliations or Designated Responsible Licensed Producers (DRLPs), use the Regulatory Licensing tool on the Maine Bureau of Insurance website.

To report changes to Owners, Officers, Partners or Directors, use the Regulatory Licensing tool on the Maine Bureau of Insurance website.
Understand residency type changes
- Transitioning from non-resident to resident status: As long as your current resident license is still active or was active within the last 90 days, you can apply as a resident without taking an exam. Complete the paper application found on the Uniform Applications and Paper Licensing page and submit it. There is a $25 fee.
- Changing from resident to non-resident status: Complete the Resident Change form. Follow the submission instructions on the form.
