License Printing

Effective November 5, 2015 the Illinois Department of Insurance will no longer mail paper renewal notices or licenses that have historically been mailed by the Illinois Department of Insurance’s Licensing Division. License renewals will be emailed to the licensee’s email address of record. Once a new or renewed license is issued, licensees will be able to print their license by going to https://sbs.naic.org/solar-web/pages/public/Manager/licensee/licenseeManagerSearch.jsf?dswid=3711#_ga=1.111797378.748737342.1481638609

Renewal Period (Individual)

License Class Renewal Period Begins Renewal Period Ends
Producer Biennially ninety (90) days prior to expiration date. Biennially on the last day of birth month.
Surplus Lines Producer Annually ninety (90) days prior to expiration date. Annually on the day license was issued.
Navigator Certificate Forty-five (45) days before license expiration date. Annually on the day license was issued.

Business Rules (Individual)

If applicant holds both Motor Vehicle line of authority (LOA) and Property LOA, only the renewal of Property LOA will be allowed. The Property LOA includes Motor Vehicle.

Paper Applicants: Illinois prefers that you use the electronic application. Paper applications can take six (6) to ten (10) weeks to process.

An affiliation is not required and the applicant may skip the "Affiliations" page on the uniform application.

CE is not required for the Navigator Certificate license class. Illinois Department of Insurance requires proof that the Navigator Federal Training was taken before issuing a Navigator license for renewal. Please scan and email a copy of the certificate of completion of the entire federal training provided at the end of the online training course to the Illinois Department of Insurance.

Renewal is determined by the expiration date of the license number. Producers may electronically renew their license if the license is only for these major lines of authority (LOAs) including Life, Health, Property, Casualty, Variable, Personal Lines, or Motor Vehicle. Electronic renewals will be available up to ninety (90) days prior to your license expiration date.

Electronic renewals must be renewed for all active lines.

Applicants with expired licenses must reinstate through Resident License (RL) Application.

Renewal certified education requirements for major LOAs, surplus lines, and title:

  • Effective January 1st, 2010 - applicant must have three (3) hours of classroom ethics study before they can renew.
  • Before producer can renew electronically, Producer Database (PDB) must show producer as certified education compliant.

Surplus lines applicants must hold a producer license with equivalent property and casualty LOA in Illinois.

Illinois Department of Insurance requires proof that the Navigator Federal Training was taken before issuing a navigator license for renewal. Please scan and email a copy of the certificate of completion of the entire federal training provided at the end of the online training course to the Illinois Department of Insurance.

If applicant responds "yes" to one of the background questions please submit supporting documents electronically via NIPR's Attachments Warehouse. The documents may also be submitted to the state via mail, email, or fax. Paper applications can take six (6) to ten (10) weeks to process.

Illinois Department of Insurance requires a list of all affiliations before a navigator certificate license will be renewed.

Business Entity Navigator Certificate applicants cannot change the line of authority (LOA) on a renewal application. If you need to change your LOA please apply by paper directly with the Illinois Department of Insurance at http://www.naic.org/documents/committees_ex_pltf_plwg_be_renewal_producer_app_20132015_clean.pdf.

At least one (1) Designated Responsible Licensed Producer (DRLP) must be provided on the application and have have an active resident or non-resident license in Illinois. This excludes car rental and self-service storage licenses.

DRLP license must be listed on PDB and be applying for a business entity license.

If renewal is for navigator certificate license class with line of authority (LOA) of navigator or LOA of in person counselor, at least one (1) Designated Responsible License Producer (DRLP) must hold an active resident or non-resident navigator license with the navigator LOA in Illinois.
