Business Rules

  • Effective July 1, 2023, the Department will no longer accept paper applications. All applications must be filed through NIPR.com and all fees must be paid through EFT in the NIPR.com system. Any paper apps received on or after July 1, 2023, will be mailed back to the sender. Any applications received late as a result of submission of a paper application being returned will be the responsibility of the applicant and all lapses in licensure and any penalty fees for late submission will remain in place.

  • The Illinois Department of Insurance will be phasing out renewal reminders at the beginning of January 2024. NIPR has a free app that can be downloaded by all producers for iOS and Android devices that can be set up to send automatic reminders prior to license expiration dates. The Department requests all licensees to utilize this free services.

  • If applicant holds both Motor Vehicle line of authority (LOA) and Property LOA, only the renewal of Property LOA will be allowed. The Property LOA includes Motor Vehicle.

  • An affiliation is not required and the applicant may skip the "Affiliations" page on the uniform application.

  • CE is not required for the Navigator Certificate license class. Illinois Department of Insurance requires proof that the Navigator Federal Training was taken before issuing a Navigator license for renewal. Please scan and email a copy of the certificate of completion of the entire federal training provided at the end of the online training course to the Illinois Department of Insurance.

  • Renewal is determined by the expiration date of the license number. insurance producers may electronically renew their license if the license is only for these major lines of authority (LOAs) including Life, Health, Property, Casualty, Variable, Personal Lines, or Motor Vehicle. Electronic renewals will be available up to ninety (90) days prior to your license expiration date.

  • Electronic renewals must be renewed for all active lines.

  • Applicants with expired licenses must reinstate through Resident License (RL) Application.

  • Renewal certified education requirements for major LOAs, surplus lines, and title:
    • Effective January 1st, 2010 - applicant must have three (3) hours of classroom or webinar ethics study before they can renew. **
    • Before insurance producer can renew electronically, Producer Database (PDB) must show insurance producer as certified education compliant.
  • Surplus lines applicants must hold an insurance producer license with equivalent property and casualty LOA in Illinois.

  • Illinois Department of Insurance requires proof that the Navigator Federal Training was taken before issuing a navigator license for renewal. Please scan and email a copy of the certificate of completion of the entire federal training provided at the end of the online training course to the Illinois Department of Insurance.

  • Public Adjuster applicants must be Continuing Education (CE) compliant before the renewal will be allowed.

  • If applicant responds "yes" to one of the background questions please submit supporting documents electronically via NIPR's Attachments Warehouse. The documents may also be submitted to the state via mail, email, or fax.

  • NIPR verifies compliance with the states CE requirement prior to allowing submission of a renewal application. You may select your resident state on the following link: Verify My CE to view your CE transcript and determine whether the state has updated your status to compliant in their system and on what date.  It generally takes up to 72 hours from the compliance date for the status to be updated in our system.
