Renewal Period (Individual)

License Class Renewal Period Begins Renewal Period Ends
Insurance Producer Ninety (90) days prior to expiration date. Biennially on licensees birthday.
Surplus Lines Ninety (90) days prior to expiration date. Biennially before license expiration date (September 30 – even years).

Business Rules (Individual)

Applicant cannot late renew if status of license is inactive. Applicant must reinstate or reapply through the NIPR's Non-Resident License (NRL) application.

Late renewals for licenses with a status reason code other than Non-Renewal are not allowed.

Connecticut allows a late renewal period for insurance producers of one (1) year after expiration date with additional fees. After one (1) year applicant will need to reapply through the Resident License (NRL) Application.

Surplus Lines licensees cannot late renew. On the day after license expiration date, the applicant must reinstate through Resident License (NRL) Application.

Applicants renewing Variable Lines of Authority (LOA) must supply FINRA CRD number on application.

The insurance producer Life LOA must be actively held or renewed in conjunction with insurance producer Variable Life and Variable Annuities in Connecticut to renew.

Partial renewals are allowed for Non Residents

Applicant must hold active single lines of Property and Casualty as an insurance producer or renew simultaneously to be eligible for Surplus Lines renewal.

Applicant must have an equivalent license for the requested lines of authority (LOAs) in the requested non-resident state.

An affiliation is not required and the applicant may procced past the "Affiliations" page on the uniform application.

Applicants applying for the Variable LOA must supply FINRA CRD number on application.

If applicant responds "yes" to one of the background questions please submit supporting documents electronically via NIPR's Attachments Warehouse. The documents may also be submitted to the state via mail, email, or fax.

Renewal applications will be reviewed and processed by the Connecticut Insurance Department. Most applications will be processed within 7-10 business days. The applicant will receive email notification from Connecticut once the LICENSE has been APPROVED. Check for the approved license at:  www.ct.gov/cid.  Under "Industry," select Verify and Print a License."

Renewal Period (Business Entity)

Business Rules (Business Entity)

Insurance producer applicants that have been inactive for more than one year past expiration date may reinstate through (NRL) application.

Casualty Adjuster, MVPD Appraiser, Public Adjuster, Third Party Administrator and Surplus Lines applicants may reinstate the day after expiration date.

Casualty Adjuster applicants cannot apply for more than one line of authority within license class on the same application.

Applicants renewing insurance producer Variable Life and Variable Annuity must actively hold or renew insurance producer Life.

Applicants renewing Surplus Lines must actively hold both single lines of Property and Casualty under insurance producer license class prior to submitting the Surplus Lines Broker application.

Casualty Adjuster, MVPD Appraiser, Third Party Administrator, Public Adjuster and Surplus Lines applicants cannot enter 'Doing Business As" (DBA) name.

At least one Designated Responsible Licensed Individual must be listed on application.

insurance producers, Surplus Lines, Casualty Adjusters, MVPD Appraisers and Public Adjusters require at least one active Designated Responsible Licensed Individual to hold same license type but do not require lines to match.

All Third Party Administrator applicants must provide complaint contact information.

Third Party Administrator applicants must submit documentation to the Connecticut Insurance Department as required by Connecticut Public Act 11-58 38a-720. Surety bond amount is $500,000. Attachments for "Yes" responses to questions 1-5 should be attached to the NIPR Warehouse. All other attachments should be scanned and emailed to: cid.tpa@ct.gov.
