South Dakota does not accept paper filings and no longer sends out a paper license. Applicants can view licensing information by going to the South Dakota state website and using the 'License Inquiry Service' at the bottom right corner. From this page, applicants can also obtain information on how to print licenses. The cost to print a license is $5.50.
Applicants are not required, as a condition of licensure, to be registered by the South Dakota Secretary of State. Business entities may be required to register with the Secretary of State under their corporation statutes. They may be contacted through the state website.
Business entity applicants applying for managing general agent must actively hold a business entity license prior to applying.
Business entities must reapply through NIPR's Resident License Application at any time if the license is inactive.
If applicant responds "yes" to one of the background questions please submit supporting documents electronically via NIPR's Attachments Warehouse. The documents may also be submitted to the state via mail, email, or fax. All other required documentation must be forwarded directly to the state.
