Applicant Can

  • Submit adjuster for individuals electronically.
  • Submit Adjuster Designated Home State (ADHS) electronically.
  • Print licenses electronically.

Applicant Cannot

  • Submit partial renewals.

Business Rules

  • If an applicant applies for Adjuster, Hail Adjuster or Public Adjuster after the start of the renewal period, the applicant will not have a renewal available until the following year.

  • Adjuster Designated Home State (ADHS) Rules:
    • In order for an applicant to designate a home state during the renewal application, the applicant cannot have an active resident Adjuster license, in any state, on the Producer Database (PDB).
    • If the designated home state license is inactive at the time of renewal, applicant may select another non-resident state with an active Adjuster license as the Designated Home State.
    • If applicant holds an active insurance producer (non-Adjuster) resident license in a state that:
      • licenses resident Adjusters, and is designating an active non-resident Adjuster license as their home state license, application will be deferred to the North Carolina Department of Insurance for review.
      • does not license resident Adjusters, and is designating an active non-resident Adjuster license as their home state license, application will be deferred to the North Carolina Department of Insurance for review.
      • does not license Adjusters, and no active non-resident Adjuster license (other than the application state license), applicant must use current active resident license to renew non-resident Adjuster license.
  • If applicant holds only an active insurance producer (non-Adjuster) resident license in a state that:
    • offers Adjuster licensing (non-Public Adjuster), and is using current resident license to renew non-resident Adjuster license, applicant cannot designate.
    • does not offer Adjuster licensing, and is using current resident license to renew non-resident Adjuster license, application will be deferred to the North Carolina Department of Insurance for review.
    • Applicant may select North Carolina as their Adjuster Designated Home State while renewing their non-resident North Carolina license.
  • The new Adjuster Designated Home State selected must have an active non-resident Adjuster license on the PDB.

  • Adjusters that Designate North Carolina as their home state who do not meet their Continuing Education requirements by the due date will be expired. If they complete the within 4 months, they may contact the North Carolina Department of Insurance and pay a $75 fee to reinstate their license. If the missing CE is not completed within 4 months, they must restart the licensing process.

Send written notification to Agent Services Division, 1204 Mail Service Center Raleigh, NC 27699-1204. The notification must include the previous and new name, social security number and the licensee's signature. Attach a copy of the marriage certificate, divorce decree, or other legal document showing the reason for the name change. The written notice may also be sent by email or by fax to 888-959-3010.

Send written notification on letterhead to Agent Services Division, 1204 Mail Service Center Raleigh, NC 27699-1204. The notification must include the name and NPN or SSN of the new officer/owner and instructions regarding the old officer/owner. If the new owner is a business entity, provide the FEIN. The written notice may also be faxed to 888-959-3010 or sent via email as an attachment.

Return the license(s) with a written request to cancel them. Be sure the request is signed. If you are unable to find your license(s), submit a statement requesting license cancellation. The statement must be signed and must indicate which licenses you wish canceled. Indicate your name and complete social security number. Agent Services Division accepts third-party license cancellations for company-sponsored licenses only.

IF THE NAME CHANGE ALSO INVOLVES A CHANGE OF TAX IDENTIFICATION NUMBER, THEN THE BUSINESS ENTITY MUST REAPPLY FOR LICENSURE USING THE NC-CP APPLICATION, FEE, AND ATTACH THE REQUIRED CERTIFICATE OF AUTHORITY FROM THE NC SECRETARY OF STATE SHOWING THE NEW NAME. The written notice may also be sent by email or by fax to 888-959-3010.

NC does not do affiliations. For changes of DRLP, send written notification on letterhead to Agent Services Division, 1204 Mail Service Center Raleigh, NC 27699-1204. The notification must include the name and NPN of the new DRLP and instructions regarding the old DRLP (delete or leave). The written notice may also be sent via email as an attachment or by fax to 888-959-3010.
