Business Rules

*Address must match respective resident/home state license address.

  • P.O. Boxes are not permitted in the applicant’s residence address fields.

  • Applicant’s Virginia license must be in active status on PDB.

  • For Virginia resident applicants, residence address and mailing address must be the same.

  • Applicant’s phone number and/or fax number cannot begin with ‘1’.

  • For non-resident Virginia licensee, applicant’s residence and mailing addresses must not be in the state of Virginia.

  • 183 calendar days

  • Not required to be reported to Virginia

  • Moving from another state to Virginia 
    • Your resident license in your previous home state must be inactivated to obtain a Virginia resident license.
    • If you apply within 90 days of inactivating your previous resident license, you will not be required to take the exam or get a Criminal History Record Report (CHRR) for licenses held in your previous home state.
    • Your Virginia nonresident license will remain active during the 90- day period.
    • Your appointments will remain active unless terminated for other reasons.
  • Moving from Virginia to another state:
    • Clearance letter, which when processed terminates all active licenses and appointments in Virginia, is required when moving to another state.
