Business Rules

  • Insurance Producer, Title and Adviser lines of authority (LOA) applications are deferred to the state. Application will be approved once Maryland verifies that bond(s) on file in the correct amount are still active. If exempt from the bond or education requirement(s) please submit documentation supporting exemption directly to the Maryland Insurance Administration to have the application resolvedThe email address is producerlicensing.mia@maryland.gov.   • Self-Service Storage renewal applications must be submitted via a paper application directly to state.

  • When renewing adviser variable LOA, applicant must actively also hold or renew simultaneously adviser LH LOA.

  • When renewing surplus lines, applicant must have both property and casualty LOAs under the insurance producer license class.

  • All applications for variable life and variable annuity must already have an active life LOA license or be applying for on the PDB.

  • Insurance producer life is required to renew viatical settlement broker license.

  • Electronic renewals must be renewed for all lines under requested license. Paper renewals are required if only renewing partial lines of a specific license.

  • Variable applicants must also hold life within requested license class.

  • Applicants with a Cancelled license status must contact Maryland Insurance Administration directly if attempting to re-apply.

  • Viatical Settlement Broker re-applications (through initial licensing) are allowed the day after expiration date through initial license applications.

  • If applicant responds "yes" to one of the background questions please submit supporting documents electronically via NIPR's Attachments Warehouse. The documents may also be submitted to the state via mail, email, or fax.

Renewal Period:

  • Starts: Ninety (90) days prior to expiration.
  • Ends: Expiration date.

Late Renewal Period:

  • Up to one (1) year past expiration date.

  • Starts: Ninety (90) days prior to expiration.
  • Ends: Expiration date.

Late Renewal Period:

  • Up to ninety (90) days after expiration date.

Viatical Settlement Broker

Renewal Period:

  • Starts: Ninety (90) days prior to expiration.
  • Ends: Expiration date.

Late Renewal Period: 

  • NIPR verifies compliance with the states CE requirement prior to allowing submission of a renewal application. You may select your resident state on the following link: Verify My CE to view your CE transcript and determine whether the state has updated your status to compliant in their system and on what date.  It generally takes up to 72 hours from the compliance date for the status to be updated in our system.
