License Printing

Effective November 5, 2015 the Illinois Department of Insurance will no longer mail paper renewal notices or licenses that have historically been mailed by the Illinois Department of Insurance’s Licensing Division. License renewals will be emailed to the licensee’s email address of record. Once a new or renewed license is issued, licensees will be able to print their license by going to https://sbs.naic.org/solar-web/pages/public/Manager/licensee/licenseeManagerSearch.jsf?dswid=3711#_ga=1.111797378.748737342.1481638609

Renewal Period (Individual)

Producer Ninety (90) days prior to expiration date. Biennially on original issue date of license.
Surplus Lines Producer Ninety (90) days prior to expiration date. Annually on original issue date of license.
Travel Insurance Biennially ninety (90) days prior to expiration date. Ends 5/31 annually

Business Rules (Individual)

Paper Applicants: Illinois prefers that you use the electronic application; paper applications can take six (6) to ten (10) weeks to process.

Limited lines producer license class can only be renewed by a company during the annual appointment renewal period for Illinois.

Illinois Department of Insurance requires proof that the Navigator Federal Training was taken before issuing a navigator license for renewal.

Illinois only allows amendments to a producer license if the license is active. The applicant must meet the pre-licensing and exam requirements to apply for requested lines of authority (LOAs).

There must be no serious:

  • Regulatory Information Retrieval System (RIRS) actions for the applicant since last renewal.
  • Special Activities Database (SAD) actions for the applicant since last renewal.

If so, please contact the state for assistance.

Applicants whose license expired within the last twelve (12) months must reinstate that license through NIPR's Non-Resident License (NRL) Application.

If applicant responds "yes" to one of the background questions please submit supporting documents electronically via NIPR's Attachments Warehouse. The documents may also be submitted to the state via mail, email, or fax. Paper applications can take six (6) to ten (10) weeks to process.

If the current date exceeds the expiration date, producers must apply via the Non-Resident License (NRL) Application and pay double the normal license fee until twelve (12) months have transpired since expiration. After twelve (12) months, producers must apply for a new license through the NRL application.

LOA renewal fee is prorated only if the LOA expiration date is greater than the license expiration date. If the LOA expiration date is less than or equal to the license expiration date, there is no prorating the $50.00 fee.

Business Rules (Business Entity)

Applicant must be one of the following legal business types:

  • Corporation
  • Partnership
  • Limited Liability Company (LLC)
  • Limited Liability Partnership (LLP)
  • Sole Proprietor

Applicants whose license expired within the last twelve (12) months must reinstate that license through NIPR's Non-Resident License (NRL) Application.

Each Designated Responsible Licensed Producer (DRLP) must have an active resident or non-resident license in Illinois. This excludes car rental and self-service storage limited licenses.

The DRLP must also be an officer, owner, partner or director.
